San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama made history vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.
With his impressive performance on both ends, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has met the hype early in his debut season. Although the Spurs haven’t won many games, Wembanyama has exceeded expectations. In the game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, Wembanyama scored 19 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and eight blocks. He joined Spurs legend David Robinson as the only rookie with those numbers.
As a rookie sensation who hopes to follow in Robinson’s footsteps as a legendary Spurs big man, it’s fitting that Wembanyama joins Robinson on this list. Even though San Antonio lost the game, Wembanyama continues to perform well on both ends, which makes me increasingly excited. Despite his fluctuating offensive efficiency, Wembanyama’s rim protection is impressive.
The combination of eight blocks, 19 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and a steal made Wembanyama’s performance historic. Eight blocks rarely happen, and especially not for a rookie. Only 13 games into his NBA career, Wembanyama is already posting stat lines like this. This is so that he won’t make NBA rookie history for the last time.
For now, the Spurs can enjoy what their rookie sensation has shown to start his career, even though they want to win games.
